When a dream starts to take shape and become reality, it’s pretty exciting. That’s how I am feeling about the missions trip to Haiti.
It was so encouraging to have 10 at January’s meeting to discuss what we want to do and when we want to go. At this time it’s a mix of mostly adults with a couple of teenagers. The group decided they were pretty must open to doing light construction, working with kids or some combination of both and were curious to see what types of projects the agencies we are considering have to offer. The group decided that June 2016 would be the best time to go, probably soon after school is over.
If there are any others who are interested in going, we would love to have you come to our monthly meetings held the fourth Sunday of every month immediately after second service.
By the time you read this article, we will have representatives from two agencies: Praying Pelicans and Lifeline Missions come to February 22 meeting to answer questions. Their websites, other links and materials were sent out before the meeting so the team could find out a bit on their own about each group and come prepared with questions. Imagine Missions is still a possibility, but their rep did not contact me in time to schedule them for the February meeting.
Fundraisers will be something that we will need to start soon. Becky Roth gave me some great ideas to follow up on with Applebee’s and Bob Evans who both have fundraising programs, as well as holding a blood drive for Aultman Hospital What is great about these ideas is that we can widen the support beyond the church for this trip Thanks to United Methodist Women for offering to use the profits from the church cookbook sale for this trip, also. If anyone else has ideas for fundraising, please contact me.
As we prepare to go on this trip, there will be much to do in terms of getting ourselves spiritually ready, culturally aware and sensitive, and health prepared. We would appreciate your prayers for these things and that God would begin to prepare our hearts as well as those we will meet.
Lotus McCleery for the team.
