Sermon on the Mount

Sermon on the Mount

A few weeks go I mentioned how important it is for us Christians to try to be calm, non-anxious persons in this tumultuous sea of chaos which surrounds us. This is the model for living that Jesus Himself gave to us. Consider this excerpt from the Sermon on the Mount:

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?”

Presently we are all caught up in anxiousness over the coming Presidential Election-some more than others. And this election will certainly have a great impact on our economy, jobs, the national debt, foreign policy, investment/retirement funds, and many other things which are important to us all.

Listen to what Jesus says: “And why do you worry about (such things)?” verse 26. He reminds that birds neither sow nor reap, and yet God feeds them. And Jesus says that we are far more valuable than the birds … so why worry?

In other words, Jesus is saying that we are not to worry about the coming election nor all of the things that it may impact because God loves us. We are His children! He has saved us! And Jesus is preparing a home for us in Heaven that is eternal! In 1 John 2:17 we read, “The world and its desires pass away, but the one who does the will of God lives forever.” Paul reminds us that elections come and go; kingdoms and nations come and go, but God and His Kingdom are eternal.

Therefore, I am suggesting to all of us that we need to keep everything in perspective. No matter what happens in this or any other election, “(nothing) will ever be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:39

Remember that earth is just our “temporary duty station”. Our ultimate home is in Heaven as a member of the Family of God.
